James A. Fleming

James A. Fleming is currently Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Cousins Properties (NYSE:CUZ), an Atlanta-based real estate company, where he is responsible for accounting, tax and treasury, as well as financial planning and modeling, banking and finance, and investor relations. From 2001-2004, Jim served as the company's Senior Vice President and General Counsel. Before joining Cousins, Jim practiced law with Long, Aldridge & Norman (now McKenna Long & Aldridge), where he served as managing partner, and as a founder of Fleming & Ray (now Ray & Sherman).

 

Education: Jim received his law degree from the University of Virginia, where he was Executive Editor of the Virginia Law Review. He received a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University with highest honors.

 

Memberships and Civic Involvement: Jim serves on the Board of Directors of Carmike Cinemas, Inc., and is a member of the Audit Committee and the Compensation and Nominating Committee. He is currently Vice Chairman for Real Estate of the Woodruff Arts Center Corporate Campaign and a member of the Parents Council of Presbyterian College. He has served in the past as a program chair for the Law and Accounting Conference of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT), and he has been an active participant in NAREIT's efforts related to international accounting standards and fair value accounting. Jim has previously been Chairman of United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Atlanta, Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church and a member of the Board of Visitors of Emory University. He also served as President of the Real Estate Section of the Atlanta Bar Association and as a board member of the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia.
